PHYSICAL THERAPY |  REDISCOVER FREEDOM IN MOVEMENT

The benefits of physical therapy go beyond just the body. The aim of physical therapy is to help you regain your ability to participate in every day life and do the recreational activities you enjoy. People of all ages can benefit from physical therapy.   If you are recovering from surgery, an injury, or simply living with a medical condition that is limiting your ability to function, physical therapy is for you. The benefits of physical therapy are many and include the following:

  • Shortened recovery time after injury and surgery

  • Prevention of certain complications after injury, surgery, and illness

  • Improved mobility

  • Promotion of healing

  • Increased range of motion

  • Increased strength and endurance

  • Reduced risk of falls

  • Reduced pain and joint stiffness

  • Improved overall health and fitness

WHAT DOES A PHYSICAL THERAPIST DO?

Physical therapy services begin with an initial evaluation of physical and mobility deficits including the ability to walk safely. Home safety, equipment needs, and your personal movement goals are also evaluated. A customized physical therapy program is then developed and may include some of the following:

  • Training and restoration of walking, balance, and mobility

  • Plan to address home barriers that may interfere with walking

  • Plan to reduce the risk of falls

  • Recommendations for wheelchair, walkers, crutches, or other mobility equipment

  • Training on the proper use of equipment such as walkers, client lifts, and sliding boards

  • Training in overall strength and endurance secondary to deconditioning post illness

  • Caregiver and family education and training

  • Development of a home exercise program

  • Driving evaluation and rehabilitation

  • CarFit evaluations
